More whipped cream, please

How can someone order a yummy, sugar-filled creation and NOT have whipped cream?

Sitting at a table overlooking the snow-covered mountain, I was enjoying the view and a good book.

Handsome was out skiing black diamonds.

Black diamonds sound so glamorous. Sadly, they are just ski slopes with a higher degree of difficulty, not rare gems. I like to imagine that it is like a video game. You ski the course, and if you succeed at not tumbling off the side of the mountain, you win black diamonds. That would be awesome! I would be willing to attempt skiing again if that were the case. What person wouldn’t?!

Without the lure of actual diamonds, I was more than content to sit in the warm lodge and watch the snowfall.

The bar was relatively quiet since the day was still early, and almost everyone was on the slopes. Consequently, it was not surprising that I overheard the order of a young woman behind me.

She had been perusing the drink menu for a few minutes before the waiter appeared at her table.

“The Hot Peach Pie sounds delicious,” she said.

“It is good,” agreed the waiter/bartender.

“Okay, I’ll get that, but no whipped cream.”

With a quick nod and a smile, the waiter hustled away.

No whipped cream?!?

I was baffled. I didn’t understand it. Unless you are lactose intolerant, why would you ever not have whipped cream on a hot, alcoholic drink with a heavy dose of liqueur?

I’m more inclined to add whipped cream than not. Oh yes, make a white mountain in a mug. In fact, skip the drink and just give me more whipped cream. I’ll give an even bigger tip if it has cinnamon, nutmeg, or peppermint sprinkles on top.

She clearly didn’t feel the same.

That’s okay—more for me.

Inspired, I ordered a Summit House. It comes with peppermint schnapps, coffee liqueur, crème de cacao, hot chocolate topped with extra whipped cream, and a generous dash of cinnamon.

Sooooooo good.

Mint.com categorizes counseling under “Alcohol & Bars.” They may have a point.

Just about anything, if it is shiny, I’ll be attracted to it. I won’t buy it of course. That would be impractical and a house full of reflective objects would be too much stimulation for my highly sensitive self. But if I’m in a store and I see sparkles, I’m all happy smiles and sunshine.
